Muffin Cat Cares

In the social media age there’s a lot that makes people feel excluded. It begins at our school lunch tables and extends right into adulthood. Are we known for leaving people out or are we known for including them?

I sat alone in the cafeteria and on the school bus. I always felt different. In hindsight, it was probably my own insecurity that kept me from sitting with a group of my peers. Things were not well at home. I was wrestling with my mom’s illness. My dad worked long hours. As a result, I felt isolated and misunderstood.

There was a special family in my life that saw me. They invited me into their home and included me. I spent Thanksgiving with them one year. On another occasion, they made me a peanut butter frosted chocolate cake for my birthday. They made room for me. I felt like one of their own.

It wasn’t until I was an adult that I recognized that I could invite people to my table. That I could scoot over and make room for another. I realized that I could build community wherever I went, simply by acknowledging the people around me.

“…to care for those who aren’t like you, this is how you truly win…”

Muffin Cat Cares.

Make someone feel invited. Make someone feel known. Make them feel seen. Make them feel special.
